Beliefs
Salvation
Salvation is only accomplished by grace through faith in Christ Jesus – “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9).
“…Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved…” (Acts 16:31)
Baptism
Baptism is only for believers – “And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized? And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God” (Acts 8:36-37).
Individual Responsibility
Every person is responsible for their own actions and beliefs – “So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God” (Romans 14:12).
Two Ordinances
Baptism – “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost” (Matthew 28:19).
The Lord’s Supper – “And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me” (Luke 22:19).
Priesthood of Believers
Believers need no human mediator (priest) to maintain their relationship with God – “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light” (1 Peter 2:9).
Christ is the only mediator between God and man – “For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus” (1 Timothy 2:5).
Scriptural Authority
God providentially led and directed men to record the Scriptures – “God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets” (Hebrews 1:1).
The Bible is God’s inspired word – “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness” (2 Timothy 3:16).
For English speakers, we only use the King James Version of the Bible.
For Icelandic speakers, we use the Icelandic Bible. Missionary Patrick Weimer is in the process of translating different parts of the Bible from their original Greek and Hebrew texts into the Icelandic language. Take a look at his translation work here.
Sin
All have sinned – “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23).
God hates and separates Himself from sin – “For thou art not a God that hath pleasure in wickedness: neither shall evil dwell with thee” (Psalm 5:4).
God loves people in spite of their sins – “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8).
Christ does not accept sin; He died and rose again to deliver people from the power of sin – “What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?” (Romans 6:1-2).
